The
common name is in reference to the similarity of its timber
to the northern hemisphere Ash tree. Its habitat is the
rainforests of the coast of far north Queensland.
Silver Ash ranges in colour from silver-white to pale yellow
shades. Grain is open and predominantly straight, however
slight grain deviation may occur associated with the bumps
on the logs surface. Tough, resilient and elastic, Silver
Ash is of medium density and strong. Very durable above
ground. Particularly useful when flexibility and toughness
are important.
The timber of silver ash is used for flooring, paneling,
oars, boat-building, furniture, veneers and turnery.
